You can always think about doing things and about the things that you want, but if you don’t have a plan for attaining any of them, they will remain a desire or a dream. Goal setting can be the plan to help you do it. Goals help you choose where you want to go in life and what you want to achieve.
Successful people in all sorts of professions use goal setting. Professional athletes may set goals to increase their strength thus improving their performance in a sport, while sales people may set goals to expand their list of potential customers in order to help increase their profits. Goals are an important step in helping you move forward. By writing your goals you are empowering yourself to begin your journey towards attaining them.
Goal setting helps with long range planning while at the same time, it motivates and allows you to organize time and resources toward achieving those goals. To help balance your life, set physical, emotional, and spiritual goals. You should decide what you want to accomplish over your lifetime, and then begin with one-year goals. You do not have to wait for the new calendar year to begin, just write your goals for the remainder of this year and draw steps leading toward each goal. Look at your goals every week and write what you’ll need to do to help address each goal.
Review your progress weekly as you continue working toward your goals, and don’t forget to visualize yourself as having successfully reached each goal. At the end of the year, celebrate your accomplishments and move on to another set of goals. You will be amazed at what you can achieve using this process. Goals should always be stated in positive terms, and by writing your goals and then visualizing them, you are on your way to achieving them.
